Teresa,

There is one reference in the Old Testament about "laying out a fleece." It too has become a tradition like "pleading the Blood." I am sure that your grandmother was a godly woman and saw many prayers answered over the course of her serving the Lord, but I have to confess that I really believe that the Lord answered some of those prayer in spite of her laying out a fleece or pleading the Blood not because of it.

Consistently throughout the Bible God calls for more than one "witness" to something before it can be established. For instance, a person's guilt could not be established if there were only one witness against them. There had to be 2 or three. In the case of 2 Cor 13:1, Paul says let everything be established out of the mouth of 2 or three witnesses. Laying out a fleece occurred once. Pleading the Blood never really appears. Peter, Paul, John and James never did it. If it was such a powerful tool wouldn't it be in the New Testament somewhere?

As I am teaching this on Wednesday nights, I am not attacking anyone who chooses to believe these things, I just am asking them to think about what they do and if there is a Scriptural reason for it. It is dangerous to establish doctrines or practices based on a one time occurrence in the Bible.

Hope this helps and thank you for your response to the blog entry.

God's best blessings to you,

Jerry

I am not sure, but I thought there were some old testament scriptures that referred to laying out a fleece? Is there? I know my grandmother had many prayers answered by doing this. She also taught me to plead the blood of Jesus over my family etc.. She was a very Godly woman who died at 92.
